OVERALL GOALS:

  • To provide policy relevant scientific inputs for management of the environment
  • To develop sustainable technologies for energy and management of air, water, and land resources
  • To develop human resource in niche areas for research on the environment and development of sustainable technologies

Scientific Capacity Building and Human Resource Development

  • Enhance the scientific understanding of local, regional, and national environmental issues with a specific focus on air, soil, and water quality.
  • Understand the cause-effect relationships between environmental changes, resource depletion and socio-economic development. Provide scientific inputs to policy makers
  • Develop effective responses (sustainable technologies) to manage and mitigate environmental threats
  • Provide a platform for graduate and undergraduate research experience in environmental monitoring, management, and protection

Ancillary Objectives

  • Create a pool of experts from various subject areas at IISERB and encourage multi-disciplinary research
  • Create public awareness and promote sustainable development

  • Understanding ambient air, water, and soil quality in Central India.

  • Understanding relationships between various earth components on local, regional, and global scales
  • Development of sustainable technologies – microbial fuel cell, molecular receptors,bioremediation techniques

  • Receptor models for ambient aerosol source and climate effects
  • Aerosol dynamics and deposition models
  • Thermodynamic models to understand organic aerosol processing
  • Life cycle analyses for environmental impact assessment
  • GIS information database and processing for land use change impacts
  • Qualitative study of solutions of ODE and PDE arising from earth system interactions

HRD and Outreach

  • Research experience to undergraduate students through internships
  • Collaborations and MoUs with other international environmental protection agencies for exchange visits
  • Developing expertise to understand Science-Policy interactions
  • Capacity-building activities including symposia, research conferences, lecture series,publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts and newsletters
  • Organizing outreach programmes for industry, research, academia, high school students and public
  • Creating/managing a web-site for dissemination of CREST’s activities
